There are people immersed in this question and undoubtedly some of them will pipe up with comparisons. I’m not sure. I know that pieces of it have been tried, with varying levels of success.
What I don’t think has been tried is the combination of 1) a new organization with a clear and distinct new mission and culture, 2) strong capitalization, 3) membership (vs. subscription) approach. I think those are the minimum required elements for a model to succeed.
